Senior Automation Architect/Tester

About the position

The Digital Modernization Sector has an opening for a Senior Automation Test Architect to work in Woodlawn, MD. This position requires onsite work in Woodlawn, MD five days a week. The role involves architecting, designing, coding, and implementing next-generation technical solutions using software engineering best practices in the latest technologies. Responsibilities include analyzing user requirements, procedures, and problems in the system to improve and modify the automation framework as part of modernizing the software system. The candidate will participate in software product evaluation to determine and adopt new solutions available in the market, train new team members on automation, and provide them with the necessary information to quickly adapt to project requirements. The role requires expertise in automation test framework development, development of automation tests using core Java, Selenium, Cucumber, and Gherkin, execution of automation test suites, and documentation of defects.

Responsibilities

• Architect, design, code, and implement next-generation technical solutions using software engineering best practices.
• Analyze user requirements, procedures, and problems in the system to improve and modify the automation framework.
• Participate in software product evaluation to determine and adopt new solutions available in the market.
• Train new team members on automation and provide necessary information to adapt to project requirements.
• Provide expertise in automation test framework development and automation tests using core Java, Selenium, Cucumber, and Gherkin.
• Execute automation test suites and document defects.
• Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and 12+ years of experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
• In-depth knowledge of Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) and Test-Driven Development (TDD) approaches to automation testing.
• Strong experience developing Selenium automation frameworks using Junit/TestNG and developing Maven targets to execute automation suites.
• Experience in setting up and maintaining Selenium Grid to execute tests in parallel and enable cross-platform testing.
• Experience developing test scripts to implement Features, Test Scenarios, and Step-Definitions in a customized test automation framework.
• Experience in configuring and executing automated regression suites using Jenkins CI/CD pipeline or Selenium Grid.
• Experience with Web Services Technologies (e.g., REST, SOAP, XML, JSON) and developing automation test scripts to test Web Services.
• Knowledge of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, DB2, Oracle) and experience with SQL for querying data to verify test results.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Scrum and/or Kanban Agile development processes, terminology, and ceremonies.
• Strong communication and collaborative skills in providing technical direction and hands-on software development.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with source code versioning and Pull Requests with Git and Stash.
• In-depth knowledge of Social Security Administration (SSA) modern development environment including Git/Stash version control, Agility, Confluence, SonarQube, and Checkmarx.
• Experience with environments utilizing Cloud/Virtualization technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Docker.
