About The Position

The Senior Accountant - Financial Reporting at the College of Southern Nevada is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, validating, reconciling, and reporting financial data. This role involves managing month-end and year-end close processes, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies. The Senior Accountant will also serve as a liaison for payroll reporting and contribute to various financial analyses and reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or closely related field from a regionally accredited college/university OR equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three years of full-time working experience in accounting, including reconciling, analyzing, and reporting financial data

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Three or more years of full-time ledger accountant experience
  • One or more years of professional accounting experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience in research and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or the standards of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB)

Responsibilities

  • Perform general ledger accounting
  • Analyze, interpret, validate, and reconcile financial data
  • Complete tasks assigned for annual and ad hoc reports
  • Prepare and review transactions, journals, and audit schedules
  • Complete tasks assigned for month-end close and year-end close
  • Research and apply policies and procedures in compliance with accounting standards, GASB reporting guidelines, and NSHE policy and procedures
  • Develop and update institutional practice guidelines based on IRS regulations applicable to the College
  • Collect information and serve as NSHE payroll liaison for reportable income
  • Review and report 1042S to NSHE
  • Research/collect information, prepare workpapers and prepare Unrelated Business Income (UBI) report
  • Research/collect information, prepare workpapers and input data to IPEDS
  • Utilize Workday, Peoplesoft and Excel (including pivot tables)
