About The Position

The Sanitarian III position is under the general direction of the Director of Environmental Health and involves assisting program managers by providing guidance to field staff in environmental programs. The role includes conducting inspections and investigations in various settings, collecting samples, performing evaluations, documenting findings, and submitting reports for the correction of public health hazards. The position requires interfacing with contractors, architects, engineers, food establishment operators, and public officials to address complex technical problems. Additionally, the Sanitarian III assists in the planning, development, and execution of environmental health programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Environmental Health Sciences or a Bachelor's degree with at least thirty (30) semester hours in basic sciences.
  • Three (3) years of professional work experience as an environmental health Inspector.
  • Current licensure as an Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP) in the State of Illinois.
  • Valid driver's license and an insured vehicle for field duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Environmental Health Sciences from an accredited college or university.

Responsibilities

  • Provides technical consultation to field personnel in program areas as required.
  • Accompanies Sanitarians on field investigations to assist in evaluating and solving environmental health problems.
  • Assists in training staff as required.
  • Performs supportive administrative and field duties in specialized environmental health programs as assigned.
  • Works with local municipal officials in evaluating and resolving environmental health problems.
  • Assures operational efficiency and productivity for program implementation.
  • Makes recommendations for enforcement action to secure compliance with applicable ordinances.
  • Submits inspection/investigative reports and maintains files and records of complaints and program information.
  • May make presentations regarding environmental health issues.
  • Conducts inspections and investigations, collects samples, and documents findings.
