About the position

Figure, an AI Robotics company, is seeking a Robot Manipulation Engineer to design, implement, test, and deploy manipulation algorithms for humanoid robots with highly dexterous hands. The engineer will train deep learning models for manipulation, develop simulation models, and collaborate with other team members to develop and implement a full autonomy stack. The ideal candidate should have experience in implementing, testing, and deploying robot manipulation solutions in C++ and/or Python on real robots, as well as a theoretical understanding and practical experience with robot manipulation algorithms. Passion for building humanoid robots and experience with deploying real-world robot manipulation solutions are considered bonus qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, and deploy manipulation algorithms for humanoid robots with high degree of freedom, highly dexterous hands. These algorithms will include grasping, picking and placing, reorienting objects, opening doors, bimanual manipulation, visual and tactile servoing, and assembly
  • Train deep learning models for manipulation that are robust to uncertainty, sensor noise, and partial information
  • Assist in producing simulation models for manipulation to enable digital twin simulations
  • Develop and use modern software engineering techniques to implement high quality, well-tested software
  • Evaluate potential manipulation solutions and make design trade offs and decisions based on robot requirements
  • Collaborate with other Figure team members to develop and implement a full autonomy stack
  • Engineer and ship high quality, reliable software that will be deployed to the real world
  • Work with the Figure Integration and Testing team to evaluate and continuously improve your robot manipulation software

Requirements

  • Experience implementing, testing, and deploying robot manipulation solutions in C++ and/or Python on real robots
  • Understand both traditional and machine learning approaches to robot manipulation, and the tradeoffs between various techniques
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks
  • Capable of quickly writing massive amounts of high quality, well-tested, robot manipulation software
  • Possess both a theoretical understanding and have practical experience with robot manipulation algorithms
  • Have a deep knowledge of state of the art techniques, data structures, and software tools
  • Thrive in a high pace environment, where solutions are often unclear and require exploration
  • Experience in robot manipulation
