About The Position

The Robert Day Sciences Center Building Manager plans, organizes, and directs the maintenance and repair of the Robert Day Sciences Center instruments and equipment as well as building infrastructure including the electrical and mechanical systems involving air conditioning, heating and ventilation, and associated utilities as well as the maintenance and operation of building utility systems involving domestic and chilled water, electricity, gas, storm and sanitary sewage. This position ensures responsive, timely and thorough responses to the needs of the Kravis Department of Integrated Sciences and the College. This position reports to the Assistant Vice President for Facilities and Campus Services.

Requirements

  • Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to High School Diploma or High School Diploma, GED or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or some college course work is preferred.
  • A minimum of three to five years of job-related experience with increasing responsibility is required.
  • Experience in private or public educational facilities is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license or equivalent alternate form of transportation is required.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the maintenance of the Robert Day Sciences Center, including instruments and equipment, laboratory infrastructure, all utilities involving water, sewer, electrical, and mechanical systems associated with heating, air conditioning, fume hoods, and chillers, fans, pumps, motors, ducting, heat exchangers, electrical and pneumatic control systems.
  • Directs the maintenance and operation of the building utility distribution system involving chilled and domestic water, electricity, and gas.
  • Establishes and conducts a preventive maintenance program of scheduled inspection and repair of instruments and equipment, electrical, mechanical equipment, and other systems, equipment and facilities to assure proper operation and to correct malfunctions before major breakdowns develop.
  • Establishes building maintenance inspections on a periodic and recurring basis.
  • Assures that work conditions are safe and conducive to efficient operations.
  • Directs the operation of the work order system and coordinates with Story House which receives all emergency and service requests and prepares work orders for the various physical plant divisions.
  • Collects data and prepares reports relevant to work progress cost.
  • Maintains Building Maintenance catalog and technical files.
  • Determines maintenance personnel needs as well as requirements for supplies, materials, equipment and maintenance contract hire, and prepares yearly budgets accordingly.
  • Continuously monitors expenditures in all categories to assure that the budget is not exceeded and that funds are effectively utilized.
  • Engages, plans and schedules subcontractors when needed to assist in maintenance, repair and construction requirements, and conducts inspections to assure that work performed meets requirements.
  • Serves as the main point of contact for any RDSC facility related issues after hours.
  • Performs occasional vivarium check-ins after hours.
  • Manages accurate records of purchase orders showing when ordered, by whom and which account charged.
  • Supervises repairs as needed for the RDSC building.
  • Handles record keeping and oversees distribution and collection of keys to individual offices, labs and outer doors.
  • Provides access and encodes cards for the RDSC building.
  • Helps support and manage the scheduling and operation of classrooms and lab spaces.
  • Coordinates with Story House, hospitality manager for cleaning services.
  • Coordinates with Bon Appetit for any café related items that might need servicing.
  • Coordinates special project/tasks and provide assistance as assigned.
  • Manages expenditures on general building maintenance and service contracts.
  • Ensures that accurate records of orders are maintained: when ordered, by whom and which account charged.
  • Delivers material received to the appropriate person or lab room.
  • Maintains accurate inventory of major department equipment.
  • Supervises installation of all equipment and furniture moving into or within the building.
  • Oversees and assists with stockroom with stocking and managing the departmental stockroom.
