About The Position

The PRE-OP/PACU RN at Memorial Hermann Texas International Endoscopy Center is responsible for planning, directing, organizing, coordinating, and implementing nursing care services for pre-operative and post-surgical patients. This role involves working in both the pre-op holding area and the post-anesthesia care unit, where nurses monitor patients recovering from anesthesia and manage their care, including pain and nausea management. The position requires a commitment to high-quality patient care and collaboration with the healthcare team.

Requirements

  • Current Nursing License
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and PALS certifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a hospital setting
  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems, and correct errors
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and staff
  • Strong knowledge base relative to surgical procedures and management of surgical patients
  • Understanding of aseptic technique and its implementation
  • Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in an Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, organize, coordinate, and implement nursing care services for pre-op and post-surgical patients.
  • Monitor heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and respiration of patients recovering from anesthesia.
  • Manage pain and nausea following anesthesia.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge patients as necessary.
  • Complete ongoing patient assessments and document according to policy.
  • Review patient database and nutrition screen.
  • Participate in the development of patient care plans, including problems, goals, evaluations, and interventions.
  • Report significant changes in patient's condition to appropriate personnel immediately.
  • Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with the care team.
  • Demonstrate appropriate application of age-specific standards in patient care.
