About The Position

The Responsible Engineer for Lunar Orbit, DDL, and Surface Phases at Blue Origin will lead the definition and validation of the Blue Moon MK1 Lander's mission activities. This role is crucial in developing sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo to the lunar surface, ensuring the successful demonstration of Blue Origin's lunar lander through collaboration with various teams and applying model-based systems engineering (MBSE) principles.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in aerospace engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience on space missions, including in late development cycles (post-CDR to launch).
  • Direct experience in systems engineering and basic familiarity with all major subsystems of robotic spacecraft.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Direct experience working on planetary landers and/or vehicles operating in the lunar environment.
  • Demonstrated experience in guidance, navigation, and control (GNC), including running/evaluating vehicle simulations and interplanetary trajectory design.
  • Familiarity with spacecraft propulsion systems, particularly cryogenic fluids systems.
  • Track record of managing spacecraft resources and solving complex, high-impact multidisciplinary design issues.
  • Hands-on hardware-in-the-loop testing experience.
  • Subject matter expertise in spacecraft thermal, communications, CDH/flight software, and/or mechanisms.
  • Experience in mission operations.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership and maintain CONOPS and mission activities for lunar orbit, DDL, and lunar surface phases.
  • Oversee and participate in phase-specific verification and validation (V&V) activities, including hardware testing and vehicle simulations.
  • Evaluate and run vehicle simulation, test reports, and other analysis products.
  • Identify and mitigate potential risks or issues discovered in system integration and testing.
  • Work with the mission operations team to ensure translation of the CONOPS to sound procedures, flight rules, and mission planning.
  • Generate, decompose, and review tasks and initiatives for other engineers on the Mission Analysis team or supporting Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), while training and mentoring others.
