About the position
As a Resident Engineer at Phoenix Contact, you will be responsible for assisting with the development, design, and improvement of electrical wiring harnesses and solutions. Working independently and as part of a global team, you will develop creative solutions based on customer requirements. This role requires proficiency in mechanical design and knowledge of high voltage, automotive connectors, and vehicle inlets and harnesses. You will represent the German engineering team locally at General Motors and collaborate with internal colleagues to deliver technical solutions to automotive OEM customers. This is a remote role based in the Metro Detroit area.
Responsibilities
- Contributes to the interpretation and qualification of project requirements
- Represents German engineering team in weekly meetings with OEM customers
- Provides onsite support to OEM customer on short notice if needed
- Assists in the development of technical solution concepts and their associated BOMs in accordance with local OEM requirements and global organizational standards
- Manages all project work according to project management processes to ensure deadlines are met and simultaneous tasks are being completed
- Creates technical documentation in support of the automotive team as required
- Collaborates with local and global internal colleagues to prepare, execute, and deliver technical solutions to automotive OEM customers
- Creates rough concepts in 3D for coordination with US OEM customer and German engineering team
- Sets up data in OEM systems on behalf of German engineering team
- Drives creation of a drawing master and reviews preliminary drawings
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline
- 1-5 years of relevant experience with GM systems and processes
- Design experience with plastic parts/parametric design and electrical/wiring harness
- Proficient CAD skills in Unigraphics (NX) or CATIA and Teamcenter
- Experience in a Manufacturing environment preferred
- Excellent communication skills
- Proficient computer skills (e.g., Microsoft applications, Engineering tools, etc.)
- Ability to travel by air, domestic or international (20-30%)
- Ability to support onsite at OEM plant on short notice
- Ability to travel occasionally overseas and to Mexico for extended periods
- Ability to obtain a passport
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time
- Effective communication skills in English
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
