About The Position

The Research and Development Design Engineer will support Knight's Armament Company by designing firearms, ammunition handling systems, and firearm accessories with the intent of providing new products for KAC. The role involves performing professional engineering and related administrative work involving research, design, construction, and related activities specific to the practice of engineering for Knight Enterprises Management, LLC. The engineer is expected to devise new approaches to problems encountered and utilize a broad knowledge of precedents in the engineering discipline.

Requirements

  • 4 Years Engineering Degree with demonstrated CAD capability.
  • Experience in 3-D CAD design, focusing on SolidWorks.
  • Knowledge of ASME-Y-14.100 / ANSI-Y-14.5 drawing terms and tolerances.
  • Design experience in the firearms industry strongly preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge in materials application, heat treat, analysis, etc.
  • Experience in design projects with multiple components & assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop design concepts on 3-D CAD system (SolidWorks).
  • Produce drawings and models to ANSI-Y-14.5 format-up to and including level III.
  • Assist in the development of products and chair design reviews.
  • Solicit input for developing new product/program.
  • Create virtual models to analyze designs using finite element analysis or dynamic simulation.
  • Oversee the manufacturing of prototypes and manage overall project schedules.
  • Act as project manager, design lead, or team member as needed.
  • Exercise independent judgment and prioritize tasks under pressure.
  • Develop instructions and procedures for R&D technical personnel.
  • Record required data from measurements and observations.
  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct testing procedures to validate concepts.
  • Conduct research and economic analysis.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement of established programs.
  • Evaluate, select, and adapt situations to solve problems.
  • Plan, schedule, and conduct detailed phases of engineering work.
  • Provide technical assistance to staff and officials.
  • Conduct audits and monitor projects.
  • Follow firearm safety procedures and maintain security of weapons.
  • Maintain confidentiality of designs, data, procedures, and processes.
