About The Position

The County of Los Angeles Probation Department is seeking candidates for a position that assists in planning and conducting research projects involving experimental designs, field studies, and surveys in the behavioral or social sciences. The role includes responsibilities such as planning, designing, conducting, and interpreting research projects, collecting and analyzing data using statistical software, conducting extensive research reviews, preparing reports and recommendations, consulting with departmental staff, and supervising trainees or clerical personnel as needed.

Requirements

  • OPTION I: A Master's degree or higher in a field of the behavioral or social sciences and one year's post-master's research experience.
  • OPTION II: A Bachelor's degree in a field of the behavioral or social sciences and three years of full-time post-bachelor's research experience.

  • Proficiency in specialized statistical research software such as SAS, SPSS, ArcGIS, and GIS.
  • Experience in planning, developing, and maintaining research databases.
  • Research experience with qualitative and quantitative methods.
  • Experience conducting literature reviews using multiple sources.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in planning, designing, conducting, and interpreting research projects.
  • Collects, processes, and analyzes data for approved studies using statistical techniques.
  • Conducts extensive research reviews using database tools.
  • Prepares reports and initial recommendations based on research findings.
  • Consults with departmental staff to explain research procedures and obtain necessary information.
  • Assists project supervisor on team projects and supervises trainees.
  • Prepares initial recommendations and submits them for review.
  • May supervise clerical personnel in connection with specific research projects.
