About The Position

The PT ESL Instructor at Cape Fear Community College is responsible for providing classroom instruction to adult ESL students, focusing on work-related and employability skills. The instructor will assess students' needs and adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, utilizing various instructional techniques such as demonstrations, visuals, and group activities. The primary goals include improving English conversation abilities, boosting student self-confidence, and enhancing employability skills. This part-time position is located at Cape Fear Middle School and requires evening availability on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• Teaching Certification in ESL or related field.
• Experience teaching adult ESL students, particularly beginners.
• Ability to assess students' English work- and life-related needs through formal and informal assessments.
• Knowledge of instructional program development and administration in adult education.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom and laboratory instruction to students.
• Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities; develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons.
• Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; grade and record individual scores.
• Provide classroom demonstrations on various equipment and machinery; develop laboratory assignments to provide hands-on experience as appropriate.
• Participate in curriculum development, evaluation, and change; attend faculty meetings as required.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain other records and databases according to program needs or accreditation requirements.
• Stay abreast of new developments and changes in various academic fields; participate in staff development programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.
• Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines.
• Participate on college committees and in other institutional activities and programs.
