About the position

Stantec is hiring a Project Level Environmental Scientist or Planner to support our Assessment, Permitting and Compliance Practice. Job responsibilities include supporting the preparation of environmental impact analyses, NEPA documents, planning documents, related technical studies which include desktop studies and field surveys, and permit application packages, as well as providing field task oversight.

Responsibilities

  • Provide assistance in the preparation of environmental compliance documents in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), including: Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments, Environmental Impact Statements, and exemptions/exclusions.
  • Preparation of environmental permit applications with various federal, state, and local agencies for a variety of project types/sizes.
  • Assist with various environmental surveys and reporting.
  • Potential to provide field guidance of staff during field programs.
  • Maintain an 90% direct project utilization goal.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years of experience post-college degree.
  • This role requires in person presence at the Anchorage or Fairbanks office.
  • Highly proficient with MS Office suite (e.g., Microsoft Word, Microsoft Teams, Adobe Acrobat, Excel).
  • Capable working both individually and as part of team.
  • Ability for periodic travel necessary to support field surveys and/or project meetings.
  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required.
  • Prior to employment, this position will require the successful passing of a pre-employment physical and drug/alcohol screen.
  • Willingness to travel and conduct field work in potentially remote areas for extended periods including overnight travel is expected for this position.
  • Field work may include hiking long distances in rough terrain and exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous Alaska remote fieldwork.
  • Understanding of NEPA and guiding projects through the regulatory process.
  • Experience with permitting for federal, state and/or local agencies.
  • Knowledge of the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, Marine Mammal Protection Act, and state/local permitting.
  • Experience working with a diverse set of project types including roads, airports, utilities, oil and gas, and/or community development.
  • Experience working with clients and/or leading pursuits.
