About The Position

The Program Specialist at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa's John A. Burns School of Medicine is responsible for the administration of the Rural Health Program and the Kauai Medical Training Track. This role involves coordinating clinical rotations, managing student housing, planning events, and overseeing program activities to support medical students in their education and training. The position requires collaboration with faculty, preceptors, and health systems to ensure the successful execution of programs and events related to rural health education.

Requirements

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in communication, health/social sciences, business, education, or related field.
  • 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in program coordination or student support.
  • Considerable working knowledge of program coordination principles and practices.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems using creative reasoning and logic.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and distance meeting software.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Interpersonal skills with experience working with faculty or students.
  • Ability to work after normal business hours and travel independently.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the JABSOM educational curriculum.
  • Familiarity with medical education practices.

Responsibilities

  • Administer activities for the Rural Health Program and Kauai Medical Training Track.
  • Collaborate with physician preceptors and health systems to schedule clinical rotations for students.
  • Create and maintain clinical rotation schedules for students.
  • Serve as a liaison for medical students regarding the Rural Health program and Kauai Medical Training Track.
  • Coordinate student housing during clinical rotations.
  • Plan and execute special events related to the Rural Health program.
  • Assist with the coordination of outreach and medical education activities.
  • Manage financial transfers and track grant budgets for various projects.
  • Coordinate faculty development activities for Rural Health and HOME Project.
  • Recruit and supervise staff for special events.
  • Collaborate with course directors for scheduling and communication.
  • Advise project directors on progress and anticipated issues.
  • Coordinate travel and housing for the Neighbor Island Medical Scholars Program.
  • Assist with the onboarding process for HOME Project volunteers.
