About The Position

Rapiscan, an OSI Systems Company is seeking a Manager, Product Quality Engineering, based out of Billerica, MA. Rapiscan is a leading supplier of end-to-end security inspection solutions, utilizing multiple technologies and advanced threat identification algorithms based on X-ray and high-speed computed tomography imaging, ion mobility spectrometry, radiation detection, and optical inspection technologies. The Principal Manufacturing Engineer position develops and implements optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommends and implements improvements to production processes, methods and controls; coordinates manufacturing launch for new or revised products.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering discipline (Preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Manufacturing) with minimum of 12 years' experience; Manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Proven leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, including managing teams and projects.
  • Extensive working knowledge of mechanical and electrical manufacturing processes, including assembly and testing.
  • Lean Manufacturing or similar continuous improvement / World Class Manufacturing methodology required.
  • Strong project management experience and skills.
  • Knowledge of MS office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel and Visio.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks 2D and 3D solid modeling.
  • Proven experience designing manufacturing layouts using AutoCAD or similar software.
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively across all levels and functions of the organization.
  • Strong communication skills, including excellent writing and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and to independently accomplish assigned tasks.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Sequence Manufacturing Work Instructions.
  • Experience with Agile and Microsoft D365.
  • Knowledge of GD&T.
  • Experience with and/or exposure to ISO 9001 and 14001.
  • Post-graduate courses in Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing/production processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards.
  • Recommend, manage, and lead the implementation of improvements to manufacturing processes, methods and controls.
  • Perform manufacturing process development and validation, troubleshooting and sustaining engineering.
  • Define and create work cell/floor layout, and manage manufacturing launch of new or revised products.
  • Develop assembly tooling and fixture design and continuous improvement of products and processes with emphasis on overall safety.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, and Quality departments to resolve production and supply chain related issues.
  • Take full ownership for tasks assigned, for defects found in Manufacturing and Test, and for any projects assigned.
  • Review, approve, initiate, and drive Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Orders (ECOs).
  • Perform root cause analysis to alleviate and eliminate obstacles affecting Production's ability to maintain schedules.
  • Design, develop, test, and source various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Prepare and present plans for improvements in manufacturing processes and methods.
  • Coordinate the design of production fixtures and tooling and specify production equipment.
  • Define key deliverables, lead and manage multiple tasks through to completion.
  • Represent Manufacturing on cross-functional project teams.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
