About The Position

The Press Assistant position at Smurfit Westrock involves assisting a team of press operators in the setup, operation, and maintenance of a flexographic press. The role is essential for ensuring efficient production processes and maintaining high-quality standards in packaging solutions.

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
• Basic computer skills are necessary.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Good attendance is essential.
• Willingness to work overtime as needed, especially during busy periods.
• Ability to perform all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up, adjusting, maintaining, and operating a flexographic press in the absence of an operator.
• Review job tickets and select the proper type and quantity of material for production.
• Assist in material changeovers and ensure correct materials are organized for production runs.
• Clean, lubricate, and make minor adjustments to maintain production quality.
• Maintain press equipment and general work areas by cleaning and organizing.
• Remove and mount plates as needed for production.
• Replenish inks and other raw materials as necessary.
• Notify supervision of needed repairs or replacement parts.
• Move loads of finished and unfinished stock when necessary.
• Assist the press operator with preventative maintenance of the press.
• Comply with established safety procedures and policies.
• Follow established standard operating procedures and complete required documentation.
• Assemble cylinders and gears as needed.
• Perform line clearance and remove waste from the press area.
• Collaborate with other departments and maintenance personnel on projects and validations.
• Perform other job duties as assigned.
