About The Position

Join a Dynamic Team at the Thoracic Oncology Research Collaborative Hub (TORCH) in the Burns laboratory. The lab of Dr. Burns is seeking a highly motivated individual to join his lab as a Post-Doctoral Scholar focused on targeted therapies and brain metastases in lung cancer. Extensive experience in cancer biology, in vivo studies (mouse), and molecular biology techniques is necessary with experience in metastases and/or metabolism preferred. This position will oversee two projects aiming to find novel targeted therapies for oncogene driven lung cancer and the treatment of brain metastases. Projects will focus on (1) Development of targeted therapeutic strategies for oncogene driven NSCLC through targeting EMT transcription factors and/or (2) Targeting lung cancer brain metastases through inhibition of the HGF/MET/TWIST1 pathway and metabolic dependencies. Studies will be conducted through the use of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo systems as well as with patient samples. Requirements

  • A Doctoral degree in a biological sciences field is required; cancer biology and/or metabolism preferred.
  • Experience in molecular biology techniques and in vivo work with mouse models is required.
  • Requires successful completion of a background check; qualified candidates may be asked to complete a pre-employment physical including a drug screen.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years post-doctoral laboratory experience in cancer biology and/or cell signaling/metabolism preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular biology techniques, ex vivo and in vivo (mouse) studies to develop targeted approaches to overcome resistance to targeted therapies in oncogene driven lung cancer and develop targeted approaches for the treatment of brain metastases.
  • Train junior staff in molecular biology techniques, ex vivo and in vivo (mouse) studies.
  • Document, analyze and interpret data for presentations, manuscripts, grant requirements (current or new), etc.
  • Participate in TORCH lab meetings, journal clubs and other relevant university oncology or immunotherapy meetings.
  • Prepare and present at professional conferences, as well as attend to expand on knowledge base and potential collaborations.
