Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved institution.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in a U.S. State or territory.
  • Completion of residency training in an accredited core specialty program.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary care services to VA beneficiaries at the Washington DC VA Medical Center and associated clinics.
  • Conduct assessments for acute illnesses and determine appropriate care settings for patients.
  • Manage chronic diseases and provide clinical guidance through various communication methods.
  • Document medical assessments and observations accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Supervise and teach medical residents and students once board-certified.
  • Establish inter-personal relationships to enhance patient care.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families, providing education and evaluating understanding.
  • Utilize CPRS software for entering and signing medical orders.
  • Maintain compliance with hospital infection prevention policies and ensure a safe work environment.
