Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Proficient computer skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of best practices and regulations for blood drawing techniques and collection
  • Coursework or previous medical terminology experience
  • Good interpersonal skills for effective interaction with patients and providers
  • Ability to build comprehensive reports and convey information effectively
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and proper PPE utilization
  • Completion of appropriate training and proficiency within 90 days.

  • Successful completion of an approved phlebotomy training course or 1-year previous work experience as a phlebotomist
  • 1 year experience as a phlebotomist
  • CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification - State of Pennsylvania
  • PBT - Phlebotomy Laboratory Technician ASCP - State of Pennsylvania

Responsibilities

  • Perform venipunctures, capillary, POCT, EKG, PKU, DUI, Drug Screen, and DNA collections for all age groups as required by site location.
  • Positively identify each patient prior to specimen collection using defined laboratory protocol.
  • Accurately label all specimens collected for testing and process, prepare, and store specimens for transport according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Clarify orders and pre-analytical test requirements when necessary, ensuring accuracy before processing specimens for transport.
  • Perform LIS and HIS data entry for all blood and body fluids, and obtain specimens from various hospital locations as per written policies.
  • Respond to customer and client inquiries regarding specimen requirements and testing schedules.
