About The Position

The Peer Mentor role is designed to support young adults facing mental health challenges by facilitating activity-based and support groups. This position emphasizes the importance of personal experience in managing mental health issues, providing hope, advocacy, and one-on-one support to help individuals develop coping skills and improve their social functioning. The role also involves contributing to systemic change through policy advocacy, making it a vital position in promoting mental health awareness and support.

Requirements

  • Personal experience managing your own mental illness, trauma, and/or substance dependency.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable automobile.

  • Ability to assess and manage risk.
  • Flexibility and creative thinking with an ability to adapt.
  • Strong boundaries.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate activity-based and support groups for young adults with mental health concerns.
  • Provide hope, information, advocacy, and one-on-one support to young adults managing their mental health challenges.
  • Promote skill building in social functioning, symptom management, coping skills, and activities of daily living.
  • Contribute to system change through policy advocacy.
