About The Position

The Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinician Scientist position at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is designed for candidates with expertise in pediatric ophthalmic diseases and/or vision science. This role encompasses clinical, teaching, and research responsibilities, focusing on the medical and surgical management of pediatric patients, while also contributing to the development of a funded research program in pediatric ophthalmology.

Requirements

• M.D. or equivalent degree is required.
• Expertise in pediatric ophthalmic diseases and/or vision science is essential.

• A track record of funded research in pediatric ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

• Teach pediatric ophthalmology fellows, ophthalmology and pediatric residents, and medical students.
• Engage in clinical and surgical activities at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
• Manage medical and surgical care for newborn, pediatric, and adolescent patients, including on-call responsibilities.
• Conduct outpatient clinics and outpatient surgeries at CHOP Specialty Care centers and Ambulatory Surgery Centers in the Philadelphia region.
• Possibly engage in clinical and surgical ophthalmology practice for adult patients at the Scheie Eye Institute, depending on interests.
• Develop and/or continue an active, funded research program in pediatric ophthalmology.
• Publish in high-impact journals and present at major society meetings nationally and internationally.
• Contribute to the general development of the research program in Pediatric Ophthalmology at CHOP.
