About The Position

The purpose of the Network Engineer role is to deliver Network Transformation and Modernization via a set of services that analyze the customer's network, identify the network solutions (Ciena and/or third party), and plan the integration/conversion requirements to meet the customer's needs. The NE will support the Sales Account team, PLM, Eng Acct Owner on proposal activities to identifying revenue (hardware and services) opportunities. Responsible for creating complex step by step engineering method of procedure to migrate, reconfigure and modernize the entire customers networks. Drive these changes remotely during off hours and week-ends. Work closely with SPM to meet customer in service network expectations and engineering documentation Creates multi-disciplinary technical innovations and solutions for the most complex or risky business situations.

Requirements

  • B.Sc. Electrical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Computer Science or a related field of discipline.
  • 5-8 years experience with Live network migration and telecommunication consulting.
  • Verizon Business Experience and Tools (ICON, CCP, Nautilus, etc) knowledge a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Implements complex upgrades of Ciena Equipment on Customer's In-Service networks without impacting the services provided to the end user.
  • Implements changes on equipment from multiple vendors when such changes are required during a reconfiguration involving Ciena products.
  • Development and presentation of complex network modernization end to end solutions.
  • Performs network audits and architecture design to enable the introduction of complete end to end network modernization.
  • Validates and test specific procedural steps in equipment labs.
  • Ownership to develop current documentation standards to support new products and ensure that they are agreed globally and rolled out.
  • Plan, develop and execute on Customer modernization plans for evolving customer networks via the EMOP process.
  • Create and own Engineering Method of Procedures (EMOP), supports field execution remotely of these modernization projects.
  • Ensure proposed solutions are technically viable, meet customer requirements and provide maximum benefit to Ciena.
  • Deliver and own Network Engineering documentation for Customers via the Detailed Network Design service offering.
  • Validates that the actions taken by the Assigned Project Team are executed properly as per the steps detailed in the Engineering Method of Procedure (EMOP).
  • Ensures the Customer's network is operating in a stable state as designed during Maintenance Window activities.
  • Own the creation of Complex/Custom EMOPs for both new Deployments and In-Service Upgrades.
  • Owns the creation and outcomes of audit and optimization service of Telecommunication networks.
  • Works with Internal Product Development Teams to recommend enhancements and suggestions on ways to improve the Field Deployment process.
  • Overall ownership of enhancements in field deployment, where applicable, quantifying the impacts of delays to support and drive this through Right First Time.
  • Participates in pre-deployment setup conference calls with the Customer.
  • Supports pre-sales custom service estimates.
