About The Position

The Dredge Operator at CEMEX is responsible for operating the dredge safely and efficiently to extract sand from pond-filled pits. This role requires familiarity with equipment maintenance, adherence to safety regulations, and effective communication with team members to ensure smooth operations. The operator must perform various tasks, including minor repairs, operating controls, and maintaining equipment, while working under the direction of supervisory personnel.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience with similar equipment or machinery is required.
  • Bilingual skills are a plus.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to work in all weather conditions.
  • Basic logging and documenting skills.
  • Ability to read and comprehend manuals and regulations in English.
  • Ability to communicate via two-way radio in English.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to detect potential equipment breakdowns.
  • Ability to identify safety hazards and respond appropriately.
  • Strong communication skills with supervisors and co-workers.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the dredge in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Become familiar with assigned equipment and recognize potential maintenance problems.
  • Carry out minor repairs and adjustments as needed.
  • Assist maintenance personnel with repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Ensure the dredge is equipped with necessary tools and safety equipment.
  • Change or repair cutter head teeth as required.
  • Understand moving procedures for dredging operations.
  • Maintain lubrication of moving parts on the dredge.
  • Operate a workboat safely and efficiently.
  • Work under training from lead personnel for smooth production.
  • Operate controls to maximize productivity from the pond banks.
  • Perform welding as needed to address breakdowns.
  • Maintain good housekeeping of the equipment.
  • Replace or assist other workers as directed.
  • Adhere to all CEMEX, OSHA, and MSHA regulations at all times.
  • Wear proper safety equipment while on plant grounds.
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.
