About The Position

The English Department at Georgia College and State University is seeking an open rank professor specializing in American literature, particularly in the works of Flannery O'Connor. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching various courses, developing new curriculum, and engaging in scholarly activities related to O'Connor's legacy. This role also includes administrative duties such as managing the Flannery O'Connor Review and collaborating with campus entities to promote O'Connor's contributions to literature.

Requirements

  • PhD in American Literature.
  • Three years of college teaching experience.
  • Experience in journal editing.

  • Experience as a general, managing, or assistant editor of a scholarly or literary journal.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in American literature, including Introduction to American Literature and Flannery O'Connor.
  • Develop new courses and curriculum for the English Department.
  • Edit and manage the Flannery O'Connor Review, including overseeing its budget and peer review process.
  • Mentor students and provide academic guidance.
  • Conduct research and publish scholarly work in the field of American literature.
  • Participate in faculty service to the institution, including committee work and outreach activities.
  • Engage in public service related to the community and the university.
  • Apply for grants related to O'Connor scholarship and direct conferences on her work.
