About The Position

Requirements

• A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
• Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse.
• At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service.
• Experience in providing professional nursing care in emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

• Certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.
• Experience in overseeing emergency department operations.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care principles, practices, and procedures required to assess the needs of patients.
• Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and react promptly in emergency situations.
• Provide counseling, guidance, and health instruction to patients.
• Identify disease entities to recognize complications and therapeutic nursing interventions required.
• Perform triage using the Emergency Severity Index system.
• Use specialized equipment such as cardiac monitoring devices and ventilator devices.
• Record information on patients' charts and maintain accurate records of intake and output.
• Administer prescribed medication.
• Independently perform professional nursing duties in the care of emergency department patients.
• Oversee the Emergency Department as a shift charge nurse and provide instruction and mentoring to lower-level trainee nurses.
