About The Position

The Motor Vehicle Operator position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves operating patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles and vans, to transport patients to and from various healthcare facilities. Requirements

  • Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
  • Demonstrate knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to assist patients with various medical conditions and/or disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Receive work assignments and direction from the Transportation Coordinator and/or Mobility Manager.
  • Arrive and depart from pickup and discharge points at scheduled times.
  • Read installation maps and judge road/traffic conditions to determine the safest route.
  • Enforce passenger safety and seatbelt use.
  • Use Mobile Data Computers (MDC) for assigned trips and duties.
  • Load and unload patients and medical supplies.
  • Perform operator maintenance such as checking fluid levels and air pressure in tires.
  • Maintain records and document actions, including operator inspection checklists and accident reports.
  • Use two-way radios to communicate with dispatchers/supervisors.
