About The Position

The Medical Billing Representative supports the Patient Financial Services Department at Massena Hospital, with training at Canton-Potsdam Hospital. This full-time position involves managing patient accounts, ensuring compliance with billing regulations, and facilitating communication between patients and the financial services department.

Requirements

• Experience in medical billing or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of DRG regulations and billing compliance.
• Ability to use hospital computer systems and payer online sites.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with patients and staff.

Responsibilities

• Using hospital computer system, ascertain status of patients' accounts and review account information for completeness.
• Prepare and submit claims in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with DRG regulations and contractual terms.
• Process follow-up billing as required.
• Utilize payer online sites and teleprocessing units to verify eligibility, benefits, and pre-certification requirements.
• Document accounts with verification information and communicate necessary details to Patient Family Services department.
• Prepare daily loss and gain records for third-party accounts and transactions for DRG adjustments.
• Accurately work payer remittances.
• Receive calls regarding status of patient accounts and answer routine questions for patients and others.
• Submit adjustments to reflect correct charges and reimbursable amounts.
• Contact patients or responsible parties to obtain missing information or provide appropriate forms.
• Complete data processing source documents and submit to appropriate insurance carriers.
• May type letters, reports, lists; file posts, and sort.
