About The Position

The Elementary Guidance Counselor at Aztec Municipal School District is responsible for providing counseling to students to promote personal growth, self-understanding, and maturity. The counselor will work closely with the principal to interpret the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community, and will assist students in interpreting test scores and other pertinent data. The role includes providing individual and group counseling, maintaining attendance and progress records, and helping students overcome educational and personal challenges.

Requirements

• Must have a valid Guidance Counselor certificate.
• A Master's degree or equivalent in educational guidance, counseling, or related fields.
• Must have a New Mexico Public Education Counseling License.
• Must complete a fingerprint background check.

Responsibilities

• Interpret the school's objectives to students, parents, and the community.
• Familiarize teachers and staff with the services offered by the guidance department.
• Assist students in interpreting test scores and other pertinent data.
• Maintain attendance records, cumulative progress records, and activity records.
• Help relieve students' educational and personal handicaps.
• Discover and develop special abilities of students.
• Provide individual and group counseling as needed.
• Assist with registration, orientation process, and class scheduling.
• Assist parents and the community in understanding educational programs and opportunities.
• Adhere to Board and administrative directives.
