The Mathematical Statistician position at the U.S. Department of Transportation involves conducting statistical analysis related to transportation and various social, economic, and safety issues.   • Conduct analysis in transportation and related areas such as social, economic, safety, environmental, and technological issues.
  • Develop statistical methodologies for projects that meet OMB and international standards.
  • Participate in mathematical statistical review and analysis of transportation data and products.
  • Conduct quality assessments of statistical information products within the DOT.
  • Review data sources and the reliability of statistics proposed by the agency.
  • Establish project goals, statistical standards, and data quality measurement guidelines.
  • Provide technical support for improving data quality from various sources.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Completion of a degree with at least 24 semester hours in mathematics and statistics, including 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, or a combination of education and experience that meets this requirement.
  • At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, including advanced statistical techniques and data analysis.
  • Experience with Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Familiarity with transportation-related data.
