About the position
This position is responsible for Material Standardization and ESG Sustainability in the Strategic Purchasing Department at Phoenix Contact. The role involves working with individuals and groups globally, as well as suppliers, to develop processes and initiatives related to International Material and Sustainability Standards. The Materials and Sustainability Engineer will participate in video and teleconference calls, coordinate projects, and communicate effectively with various departments. This is a hybrid position that occasionally requires office time in Pennsylvania.
Responsibilities
- Leads projects linked to Product life cycle and Obsolescence management of purchased production components and raw materials.
- Acts as the resident expert on the Master Release Process for Standard Components, EPLM and ERP system requirements for material master data, and document control related to purchased parts.
- Trains departments on EPLM functionality and tasks associated with the master release and lifecycle management of standard components.
- Participates in new product development, engineering change, and manufacturing relocation projects to coordinate and implement new part qualification and setup in EPLM/ERP.
- Establishes reports and KPIs to ensure transparency of Sustainability status.
- Coordinates with the Material Standardization Data Specialist to obtain supplier declarations to support sustainability requirements.
- Coordinates activities across multiple departments to achieve supplier sustainability targets.
- Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
- Must be able to travel nationally or internationally for up to 2 weeks or more as dictated by circumstances.
Requirements
- Bachelors' degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, etc.)
- 3-5 years' experience in industrial electronics and/or mechanical related field
- Experience in multiple commodity procurement
- Experience with ERP systems w/ manufacturing & MRP modules
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of company personnel
- Ability to develop and present Power Point professional presentations
- Ability to lead cross functional teams
- Detail oriented with high level of accuracy
- Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time
- Must be able to travel nationally or internationally for up to 2 weeks or more as dictated by circumstances
- Knowledge of Lean Six Sigma Philosophies and Tools
- Demonstrates a willingness to collaborate with others, build relationships, and involve others in decision making

- Be fluent in English
- Have a valid driver's license and be able to travel via automobile for up to 6 hours
- Work on a computer for extended periods of time (up to 4 hours at a time)
- Sit/and or stand for extended periods of time (2-4 hours)
- Lift 40 pounds.
