About The Position

As a Manufacturing Project Engineer for the Ground Engaging Tools (GET) group at Caterpillar, you will play a crucial role in leading and supporting the supply base in executing Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and ensuring robust process controls. This position involves collaboration with engineering and manufacturing teams to drive project management, monitor manufacturing processes, and resolve quality issues, all aimed at enhancing production readiness and efficiency.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of problem-solving approaches, tools, and techniques for recognizing and resolving operational or process problems.
  • Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects.
  • Knowledge of best practices and standards for improving the effectiveness, efficiency, and safety of manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of change control processes and procedures; ability to manage changes in the production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Metallurgical/Materials, Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical).
  • Knowledge and experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) processes and tools.
  • Knowledge/understanding of Caterpillar print reading, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Foundry process knowledge and experience.
  • Experience with steel casting processes and tooling design.
  • Experience with casting simulation tools.
  • Experience with 3D scanning technology and processes for dimensional analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Driving design for manufacturing collaboration with engineering and our manufacturing base.
  • Project management to drive timely completion of development activities.
  • Ensuring robust process controls are in place to prevent nonconformities.
  • Monitoring key manufacturing processes and quality management system for improvement opportunities.
  • Assisting with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities to ensure production readiness for New Product Introduction (NPI).
  • Driving APQP excellence within the GET manufacturing base through best practices, tools/templates, and collaborative training.
  • Providing product and process technical support during start-up activities.
  • Evaluating new manufacturers and process enhancements or expansions; validating process capability.
  • Leading investigation and resolution of product quality issues; conducting the review, approval, and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans.
