About the position
We are looking for a full-time Software Engineer to join our growing team at Tailscale. The ideal candidate will have expertise in iOS and macOS development, with a special focus on networking functionality of the platforms. They will work as part of the engineering team to develop the Tailscale product, contributing to client code and backend services. The ability to think on your feet, collaborate with highly technical teams, and comfort working asynchronously are essential. We encourage candidates from underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
Responsibilities
- Develop the Tailscale product, contributing to client code and backend services
- Bring a special focus on Apple platforms, especially networking functionality of the platforms
- Collaborate with highly technical teams and work asynchronously
- Possess iOS and macOS development expertise, including network extension and routing table shenanigans, cross-target code sharing and multiple application signing schemes, battery life investigation and improvement, intents and integrations with other software on the device, MDM integration, profile support, fleet management, and providing support for the latest Apple platform features while maintaining compatibility with a reasonable subset of older systems
- Give and process constructive feedback, as well as work independently
- Adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
- Have experience developing in Go, used for much of the system
- Work as part of a team of engineers and designers to add features in the Tailscale service
- Take a holistic view of the product, from customer needs to client applications to the admin console
- Provide a resume and any available repo and/or code samples exhibiting projects that you’ve launched or infrastructure you have helped build.

- Flexibility to adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
- Experience developing in Go, used for much of the system. Previous experience in #golang makes ramping up quicker
- Work as part of a team of engineers and designers to add features in the Tailscale service
