About The Position

Turner Industries Group is looking for experienced Machinists for turnaround work in the Lake Charles, LA area. This position is responsible for setting up and operating a variety of machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. It is a non-exempt role that reports to the Millwright or Machinist Foreman, with assigned duties according to specific procedures and frequent checks on work. The job is a 5-week assignment requiring 7/12's work schedule, with per diem and competitive wages depending on experience.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in machining.
  • Must be able to pass craft test, background check, and drug screen.
  • Knowledge of all machine tools (hand and powered) and associated hazards.
  • Special focus on safety hazards with lathes and cutting tools.
  • Written pre-employment qualification test.
  • Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation.
  • Job site safety requirements as required by the client.

Responsibilities

  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications using precision instruments.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products.
  • Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials for machinery work preparation.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock to display placement of cuts.
  • Observe and listen to operating machines to diagnose malfunctions and determine the need for adjustments or repairs.
  • Check workpieces to ensure proper lubrication and cooling.
  • Maintain industrial machines and knowledge of mechanics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Position and fasten workpieces.
  • Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency.
  • Install repaired parts into equipment or install new equipment.
  • Clean and lubricate machines, tools, and equipment.
  • Advise clients about materials used for finished products.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make or repair machine tools.
  • Perform additional assignments per supervisor's direction.
