The Machining Specialist will execute under supervision of a Research Engineer, a variety of duties involving machining testing, which include chemical and/or physical laboratory testing. They will align pilot equipment methodologies with customer requirements and consult the technical community within Quaker Houghton about cutting technology.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School degree.
  • Minimum of 10 years of machining experience.
  • Proficient in machine programming and operation.
  • Ability to use G-Code to write program for operating CNC machines.
  • Basic skills with computer software such as Word and Excel.
  • Experience and knowledge of surface metrology equipment and techniques.
  • Knowledge of industrial manufacturing processes related to part fabrication for key industrial sectors such as automotive, heavy equipment, and aerospace.
  • Must be a team player who is results/customer oriented.
  • Good communication and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to understand own growth needs/improvements areas and define goals with the manager.

Responsibilities

  • Operate CNC machines to perform tests for customers, Quaker Houghton commercial/marketing team and R D groups in North America.
  • Work on test procedures for machining testing of chemical products and perform those tests after discussions with research engineer.
  • Execute machining tests necessary to advance COI research projects focused on advancement of QH technology in machining, materials, and fluid lubrication.
  • Support the development of machining test protocols under supervision of the manager and produce data for Chemists and Manager to investigate applicability of new and replacement raw materials.
  • Clearly and orderly record and analyze all observations and data.
  • Report test results in a clear and concise manner to enhance technical exchange and give recommendations to the requester.
  • Maintain data in a manner suitable for potential patent applications.
  • Keep good open communication lines with suppliers and machining technicians from other affiliates.
  • Maintain CNC Machines and related equipment and supplies of materials/metals.
  • Provide needed support to all external machining tests conducted, including projects at Universities, Institutes, and outside machine shops.
  • Maintain consistent calibration practices of machines, diagnostic systems and all auxiliary equipment.
