About the position

The positions will work five days per week including all weekends and holidays and three randomly scheduled weekdays. Half-time positions are normally a week on and a week off. Shifts are 8 hours in length and will vary randomly between morning and evening each day. The successful candidates will report directly to the assigned lake and are required to provide transportation. Actual miles driven or the equivalent mileage from the home station (whichever is less) will be reimbursed at the current state rate. Weekend and evening hours get an additional $.80 per hour; holidays hours are paid at time and a half. These positions will independently or under general supervision perform creel clerk duties. This involves interviewing anglers, identifying and measuring fish caught, recording data, and collating and compiling the collected data.

Responsibilities

  • Lead other LTE Fisheries Technicians performing creel census duties (10%)
  • Independently or under general supervision perform creel census clerk duties and collect fish information on designated waters (70%)
  • Measure, weigh and identify fish caught
  • Interview anglers
  • Record data
  • Compile and analyze data and prepare written documentation and/or reports (20%)

Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
  • Operation and maintenance of a boat with an outboard
  • Willingness to work outdoors in inclement weather
  • Willingness to work a variable schedule (including all weekends and holidays)

  • Ability to identify common Wisconsin fish species
  • Ability to record required data accurately
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
  • Ability to pass boat safety training by the start date
