About the position

The Longwall Mechanic is responsible for maintaining longwall equipment as assigned based on the operational needs of the mine. This position requires the ability to follow and understand electrical and hydraulic schematics, as well as knowledge of solid state circuitry electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting. The mechanic must maintain compliance with all state and federal laws and all company policies, and perform any other assigned tasks for which he or she is qualified by virtue of training or experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform emergency and preventive maintenance, including electrical and hydraulic troubleshooting, and repair/replacement of component parts, on all production and support equipment.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on production equipment, i.e., greasing, fluid checks, oil and filter changes, etc.
  • Perform permissibility testing.
  • Welding and acetylene torch cutting repair and mechanical fabricating.
  • Other duties may be required as assigned by the Maintenance Foreman or the Longwall Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Must hold a West Virginia Experienced Underground Miner Certification.
  • Must hold a Federal and West Virginia State Electrical Certification.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical and hydraulic prints.
  • Must be able to lift 50 to 100 pounds regularly.
  • Operate equipment and use various hand tools including hammers, knives, etc. as required.
