About The Position

The Litigation Case Manager (Paralegal) at Shellpoint Mortgage Servicing will provide essential support to the Legal Department in managing litigation matters related to mortgage servicing accounts. This role involves independently handling a portfolio of litigated cases, appearing in court as a records custodian and fact witness, and ensuring efficient communication and coordination with outside counsel. The position requires strong analytical and organizational skills, as well as the ability to interpret legal documents and manage case-related tasks effectively.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certification recommended.
  • 3+ years of work-related experience.
  • 2+ years of litigation paralegal or mortgage company experience preferred.
  • Experience in the legal field with a law firm desired.
  • Experience with legal case management and spend software such as Legal Tracker.
  • Knowledge of general corporate law principles and basic contract law.
  • Knowledge of real estate contracts and transactions, including mortgage and foreclosure law.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage a portfolio of 150 litigated cases within the litigation inventory.
  • Support the Legal Department by appearing in-person and telephonically as a records custodian and fact witness at trials, depositions, mediations, etc.
  • Travel for appearance in person for trials that do not allow the witness to appear telephonically.
  • Appear as a representative of the company to explain the company's policies and procedures in specific cases.
  • Read, review, and interpret mortgage loan documents for litigation purposes.
  • Settle litigation cases and complaints using approved settlement authority.
  • Process requests from assigned attorneys for settlement authority and check requests.
  • Coordinate with law firms for responses to discovery requests.
  • Research points of law affecting recovery efforts.
  • Provide information support to legal recovery efforts.
  • Identify and escalate issues or trends that could cause liability or become problematic.
  • Receive and process correspondence on accounts with assigned attorneys.
  • Track actions, discovery, and witness obligations through tracking databases.
  • Monitor time and legal fees in relation to outsourced projects and legal matters.
  • Prepare expense reimbursements and perform clerical tasks as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain spreadsheets and reports, including client reports for in-house counsel.
  • Attend client or executive meetings and document discussions for in-house counsel.
  • Assist on special projects assigned by management.
