About The Position

The University of Rochester is seeking a dedicated pharmacy technician to assist pharmacists in medication compounding and dispensing under direct supervision. This role requires adherence to New York State Education Law and USP standards, ensuring safety and compliance in all compounding processes. The pharmacy technician will engage in various tasks, including the use of technology, maintaining environmental quality, and participating in ongoing training and competency assessments.

Requirements

• High school graduation or equivalent education required.
• Completion of ASHP accredited training program or equivalent experience as a pharmacy technician.
• Certification from a nationally accredited pharmacy technician certification program (PTCB).
• 3 years of experience preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must be at least eighteen years of age and of good moral character.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with robotics and IV workflow technology.
• Knowledge of hazardous drug handling procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist pharmacists by compounding, preparing, labeling, and dispensing medications under supervision.
• Utilize and maintain technology and equipment used in compounding processes.
• Demonstrate competency in selecting appropriate products for compounding.
• Follow departmental policies and SOPs related to compounding processes.
• Ensure compliance with USP standards, including proper aseptic techniques and storage of medications.
• Anticipate patient compounding needs based on orders or information provided.
• Complete assigned tasks appropriate for certified pharmacy technicians, such as medication order fulfillment and restocking.
• Participate in environmental monitoring and compliance as per USP standards.
• Complete all assigned educational materials specific to compounding and pass required exams.
