About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Outpatient Surgical Oncology at WellSpan Medical Group in York, PA, is responsible for performing patient screenings to determine appropriate care pathways. This role functions at an intermediate nursing level, assisting in the planning and implementation of patient care based on sound nursing judgment, clinical preparation, knowledge, skills, and experience. The LPN provides nursing care in accordance with the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing regulations and serves as a nursing resource for clinical staff.

Requirements

• Diploma or Associate's Degree from an accredited LPN program.
• 1 year of clinical nursing experience.
• Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse license upon hire.
• Basic Life Support certification upon hire.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

• Obtains patient history and gathers information.
• Performs specialized procedures, examinations, and/or tests as ordered, such as urinary catheterization and insertion of intravenous lines (IV).
• Ensures all patient care areas are stocked with unexpired supplies and medications.
• Sterilizes instruments, equipment, and supplies as required.
• Facilitates communication between the provider and the patient.
• Reinforces health education and counseling to patients and families.
• Evaluates patient's health status based on presenting symptoms and follows defined protocols.
• Tracks and monitors follow-up of diagnostic test results.
• Completes necessary paperwork and scheduling for diagnostic and therapeutic services.
• Maintains patient records for accurate documentation of medical treatment.
• Documents and processes prescription requests and refills.
• Assists in Hyperbaric Oxygen (HBO) Wound Care as needed.
