About the position

The job overview for the Lead Product Designer role at ustwo is to be a conceptual creative wizard who designs products that have a measurable impact on people's everyday lives. The role involves working across the entire product lifecycle, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and providing guidance and support to individual designers and teams. The Design Lead will also contribute to business development, challenge dominant design perspectives, and create brand expressive and emotionally joyful digital experiences. They should have strong communication skills and be able to think strategically and systemically about opportunities and challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Support the needs of the people, projects, and studio as a Design Lead
  • Delegate work and provide guidance and support to individual designers and teams
  • Define, build, and iterate solutions for clients and partners
  • Help improve process, approaches, and strategy for the design team and the studio
  • Manage and direct individuals and teams
  • Frame and communicate challenges and opportunities to clients and teams
  • Grow client relationships and contribute to business development
  • Work on real-world projects, not just prototypes
  • Take a wide strategic view of problems and challenge thinking
  • Conduct research, create and validate ideas, and create prototypes
  • Understand progressive ways of working and simplify complexity
  • Help others develop in their craft and soft skills
  • Create and lead brand expressive, effective, and emotionally joyful digital experiences
  • Multitask and contribute to multiple projects
  • Challenge dominant design perspectives and break new ground
  • Think strategically and systemically about opportunities and challenges
  • Visualize and prototype concepts fast to communicate ideas
  • Have a product mindset and make pragmatic trade-offs

Requirements

  • Comfortable, confident and competent at managing and directing individuals and teams
  • Able to frame and communicate challenges and opportunities to clients and teams, and create alignment on a way forward
  • Adept at growing client relationships and contributing to business development
  • A brilliant and accomplished designer with proven experience working on things that exist in the real world, not only as prototypes
  • Takes a wide strategic view of problems, seeking multiple inputs and solutions and challenges the thinking of the teams and clients
  • Enjoys being hands-on and believes lead designers shouldn’t be separated from the reality of making things
  • Well versed in conducting research, creating and validating ideas, creating prototypes, and making confident recommendations
  • Able to understand progressive ways of working to drive both commercial and design value and has the ability to simplify complexity
  • Has proven experience creating and leading brand expressive, effective, and emotionally joyful digital experiences
  • Able to multitask and contribute to more than one project at once
  • Experience in being involved in projects that have not always followed the status quo and can demonstrate times they have challenged dominant design perspectives and broken new ground
  • Able to think strategically and systemically about opportunities and challenges, and experienced and confident in visualizing and prototyping concepts fast to communicate ideas
  • Has a product mindset and is able to make pragmatic trade-offs while holding a bigger strategic goal in mind, as well as having a solid understanding across other disciplines such as brand strategy, business design, and product ownership
  • Has a clear written and verbal communication style and is a natural storyteller and presenter who can speak to a range of professionals from different backgrounds
