About The Position

The Lead Engineer in the structural discipline is responsible for managing engineering projects from concept through construction, ensuring compliance with industry standards and codes. This role requires strong technical skills, project management capabilities, and the ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders. The Lead Engineer will develop construction documents, perform structural calculations, and oversee project delivery while mentoring entry-level staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-graduate structural engineering experience in a consulting firm (preferred but not required).
  • PE/SE license is preferred but not required.
  • Strong critical thinking and engagement skills with detailed execution of concepts in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong writing skills and technical aptitude for project management.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required for project support.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, Microsoft Office, and basic element design packages such as EnerCalc or StruCalc.
  • Experience with advanced analysis and design packages such as RISA or STAAD Pro.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize knowledge and experience in the design of structural design media including timber, steel, concrete, and masonry to develop construction documents.
  • Perform structural calculations and prepare calculation packages for jurisdictional approval.
  • Manage project delivery and utilize staff in a team atmosphere to produce projects from concept through construction.
  • Monitor project status, track staff schedules and workload, and ensure projects are completed on time and on budget.
  • Lead project development through standard design processes including schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Review construction documents for compliance with applicable codes such as IBC, OSSC, ASCE 41, AISC Manual of Steel Construction, ACI-318, and NDS.
  • Follow projects through construction by reviewing and processing RFIs, material submittals, and conducting periodic on-site construction observation.
  • Collaborate with project partners including in-house disciplines, owners, architects, and sub-consultants.
  • Assist and instruct entry-level staff on technical and project management best practices.
  • Perform Project Manager duties as required.
