About The Position

Team Elmer's seeks to fill several openings for Asphalt Laborers. This position will have the general responsibility to provide support and assistance to the other skilled workers working on the project.

Requirements

  • Valid license, CDL A or B preferred
  • Clean driving record for past 5 years
  • Ability to pass physical and drug screen
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Knowledge of equipment, machines and tools including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in the construction or repair of houses, buildings, or other structures such as highways and roads
  • Experience as a prep crew laborer or comparable experience is preferred
  • Ability to complete tasks on asphalt crew as needed such as handling power tools, running heavy equipment, raking, shoveling
  • Willingness and ability to learn and understand your role on the team
  • Ability to perform repetitive lifting, carrying, climbing, and walking, with repetitive lifting of 40 or more pounds at any one time
  • Willingness to work long hours and work 5-6 days a week in all environmental conditions
  • Good work ethic, punctuality and alertness
  • Reliable transportation to and from jobsite or main location
  • Ability to follow all company, OSHA, MiOSHA, and company safety rules

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as a prep crew laborer or comparable experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team environment with other co-workers and foreman
  • Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as shoveling, raking and moving materials
  • May operate a variety of hand and power tools as well as some equipment
  • Spend time raking asphalt, shoveling excess asphalt and sweeping up debris
  • Complete a variety of other general labor assignments such as clean and prepare sites
  • Spread asphalt using efficient techniques and maintaining a good pace
  • Work with rakes to redistribute the asphalt mix more correctly as it leaves the screed and is ready for rolling
  • Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment and movement of materials
  • Follow directions of foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or job site
  • Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies
  • Assist in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices
  • May be required to regulate traffic as needed
  • Comply with and follow all company, OSHA, MIOSHA and DOT safety regulations
  • Other duties as assigned
