About The Position

The Juvenile Justice Detention Officer II is a highly responsible role within the criminal justice system, tasked with maintaining a safe and secure environment for detained youth. This position involves demonstrating leadership, adhering to agency policies, and ensuring the constitutional rights of youth are upheld. The officer will supervise youth, manage facility operations, and respond to emergencies while providing a positive role model for both staff and youth.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.
• Ability to prepare and maintain reports and records.
• Knowledge of Department and facility policies and procedures.
• Ability to observe changes in youth's behaviors.

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with youth in a detention or correctional setting.
• Knowledge of good hygiene and housekeeping tasks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe and secure environment for detained youth and staff.
• Adhere to agency policies and procedures.
• Supervise youth in all activities and maintain control through directives and counseling.
• Inspect the facility and individuals for contraband.
• Train and coach employees on their duties and facility policies.
• Write reports and prepare records regarding incidents and youth movement.
• Prepare detained youth for court appearances and transport them as needed.
• Complete required checks for youth in confinement or designated as suicidal.
• Utilize CPR, AED, and First Aid techniques in emergencies.
• Attend required meetings and training sessions.
