About The Position

The Juvenile Justice Detention Officer I position is a critical role within the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, focused on ensuring public safety by providing a secure environment for troubled youth. Officers are responsible for interacting with juvenile offenders, promoting accountability, and fostering a culture of dignity and respect. This position requires strong leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills to guide youth towards becoming productive citizens.

Requirements

• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• High school graduate or equivalent.
• No felony convictions or misdemeanors involving perjury or false statements.
• Ability to execute and submit an affidavit of application under oath.
• Knowledge of department policies and procedures for youth care.

Responsibilities

• Ensure public safety by maintaining a secure environment for youth.
• Interact with juvenile offenders and provide guidance and support.
• Implement safety procedures and conduct necessary searches.
• Recognize signs of potential suicide or depression in youth.
• Prepare and maintain reports and records related to youth supervision.
• Provide constructive feedback and manage conflicts effectively.
