About The Position

The Instrument Technician at the Surgical Specialty Center of Baton Rouge plays a crucial role in supporting the operating room staff by ensuring the proper cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments. This position is essential for maintaining the safety and efficiency of surgical procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two (2) years of experience in a hospital or medical environment as an instrument technician preferred.
• Ability to follow directions and perform work according to department policy and procedures and standards independently.

Nice To Haves

• ANSI or AAMI certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Counts/inventories instrument sets as delivered to the dirty work room.
• Communicates to the scrub when an instrument is missing.
• Cleans surgical instruments according to manufacturers' guidelines.
• Performs sterilization for implants using AORN/AAMI guidelines.
• Knowledge of what instruments belong in sets.
• Properly packages decontaminated surgical instruments (sets) for sterilization.
• Reports and delivers broken equipment to the OR Manager/Director.
