About The Position

The Construction Inspector at Anchorage School District is responsible for ensuring compliance with construction drawings, specifications, and applicable standards for various construction projects. This role focuses on mechanical, plumbing, and fire suppression systems, conducting inspections, plan reviews, and supporting quality assurance and control efforts. The inspector collaborates with project managers and other stakeholders to ensure that construction activities meet all regulatory requirements and contract specifications.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years of construction QA/QC experience or five years of relevant construction trades experience.
  • Experience supervising crews and inspecting major facilities construction projects.
  • Familiarity with a broad spectrum of construction materials, methods, and processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Knowledge of civil, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical systems design and construction standards.
  • Good written and oral communication skills for documentation and correspondence.
  • Experience with project management software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of current building codes and regulations related to construction.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to lead a team.
  • Knowledge of Department of Education specifications for school design and construction.
  • Certifications in Quality Control Manager and ICC Commercial Building Mechanical Inspector.
  • Three years of mechanical/plumbing inspection experience on large projects.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and related controls.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect all civil, architectural, structural, electrical, and mechanical aspects of construction projects to ensure compliance with codes and specifications.
  • Coordinate with municipality building inspectors and special inspectors.
  • Compose and submit daily construction inspection reports detailing project conditions and activities.
  • Review and provide comments on plans, specifications, and submittals throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain files for inspection reports and project documentation.
  • Train new employees on inspection procedures and requirements.
  • Photographically document pre-construction conditions and in-progress work.
  • Check and verify materials stored on site for compliance and protection from damage.
