About The Position

This HVAC Mechanic I position reports to the HVAC Supervisor at Nash Correctional Institution. This is a REPOST of position 60060063. Previous applicants MUST REAPPLY to be considered. Positions in this class perform the full range of journey work duties associated with position will be responsible for: Construction, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning systems and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control mechanisms. Maintain refrigeration units and their control systems. Work assignments are generally in the form of work orders indicating the nature of the problem. Identify the cause of the problem, determine materials and tools, needed and method of repair, and carry out repair procedures independently on most jobs. The larger, costlier, exceptional, or more complex jobs may be reviewed by a technical supervisor to determine extent of malfunction, to assure that proper work methods are being followed and that work is of acceptable quality. Train new mechanics or supervise the work of offenders. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC08 (Salary Range: $ 37,782 - $66,120). State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result. About Nash Correctional Institution: Nash Correctional Institution is a medium custody facility located in Nashville, Nash County NC. It houses approximately 800 male offenders. The facility provides offender labor to two Correction Enterprises operations located on site: the Optical Plant and the Print Plant. The Optical Plant manufactures eyeglasses for customers such as Medicaid and the Division of Services for the Blind. The Print Plant is a full-service print shop dedicated to printing services for state government agencies, public school systems, state community colleges and universities, and non-profit organizations.

Requirements

  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

  • Documented experience in HVAC (Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Systems.
