About the position

The position involves cleaning all patient and non-patient areas of the hospital, as well as other areas as directed. The role is essential in maintaining a clean and safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Responsibilities

• Dust, damp mop, spot clean and disinfect fixtures, furnishings in both patient and non-patient areas
• Vacuum and spot-clean mats and carpets, as assigned
• Empty, clean and re-line waste baskets
• Transport regular and contaminated waste/linen to the utility room or proper areas
• Wash and disinfect bed/crib at discharge and prepare beds for new occupants
• Follow isolation cleaning procedures when cleaning isolation rooms to prevent the spread of pathogens
• Clean and disinfect daily bathroom fixtures, mirrors, windows, doors, and walls as far as can be reached and replenish bathroom supplies if necessary
• Notifies supervisor when supplies in the Environmental Services storage room are low
• Report work orders when repairs are needed in assigned areas
• Maintains tools and equipment in good condition, is responsible for economical use of supplies
• Mechanical aptitude for operating machines and equipment may include hard floor surface maintenance, ex: stripping, refinishing, burnishing and shampooing carpets
• Delivers clean linen throughout the facility
• Enhances professional growth and development by attending in-service, required meetings and other educational programs

Requirements

• Must know how to use common housecleaning implements such as mops, floor waxes, and scouring pads to keep areas clean and well serviced
• Ability to follow oral or written instructions
• Work with constant concern for the safety of all people, patients, visitors etc
• Interacts in a positive manner with coworkers in all departments to accomplish the goals and objectives of the hospital for effective patient care
• Must be able to read, write and speak English
• Perform other duties as may be assigned
