About The Position

The New York State Department of Transportation is seeking candidates for the position of Highway Maintenance Worker 1/Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 1/Highway Maintenance Worker Trainee 2 in Region 4, specifically in Wyoming County. The selected individuals will be responsible for performing routine manual tasks that require medium to heavy physical effort and involve exposure to various weather conditions. This includes operating plows during winter operations and responding to emergency callouts within one hour during inclement weather. Responsibilities may also include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department's response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Requirements

• Must be 18 years old.
• Pass a physical/medical examination and drug test.
• Possess a Class D Driver License for Trainee 1.
• Possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver License with no airbrake restriction for Trainee 2.
• Satisfactory completion of the Highway Maintenance Worker Traineeship 2 or one year of experience in highway construction or maintenance equipment operation for Highway Maintenance Worker 1.
• Possess two NYSDOT equipment operation certifications and specific certifications for Highway Maintenance Worker 1.

Nice To Haves

• Experience operating a NYSDOT large dump truck.
• Current CDL Medical Certificate (form MCSA 5876) that meets specific criteria.
