About The Position

The Hearing and Vision Technician conducts vision and hearing screenings for preschool and school-aged children in suburban Cook County. The role involves scheduling screenings, administering tests, reporting results, and coordinating with school personnel. The technician is responsible for maintaining equipment, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with health standards. The position requires travel, and the technician must possess a valid driver's license and insured vehicle.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, GED equivalent, or higher.
  • Current and valid certification as Hearing and Vision Technician by the State of Illinois within 6 months of starting employment.
  • Moderate to heavy local travel required; must possess a valid driver license and insured vehicle.
  • Skills and proficiency in the use of hearing and vision equipment.
  • Available for 'on-call' duty as required.
  • Proficient in operating a computer for documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules screenings with school personnel and coordinates with administrators in nursery schools and day care centers.
  • Administers vision tests using a Titmus Vision Screener and other instruments.
  • Schedules retesting for children with substandard results and notifies school personnel of missed screenings.
  • Administers air and bone conduction audiometry to determine hearing levels.
  • Instructs and conditions children for testing procedures.
  • Reports test results and makes recommendations for follow-up care.
  • Prepares and maintains hearing and vision equipment and inventory.
  • Prepares statistical reports on screenings.
  • Assists with training of new technicians and volunteers.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
  • Attends mandatory training sessions and department meetings.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness trainings.
