About The Position

The Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) invites applications for a Head Men's Basketball Athletic Trainer to support Men's Basketball. In addition, the Head Men's Basketball will play a critical role in supporting the broader strategic priorities of the DIA, and ultimately this position will help foster a life-changing experience for student-athletes. Since 1892, DIA has operated on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to support its intercollegiate athletic programs. Today, DIA supports 21 intercollegiate varsity sports which compete as a part of the Big Ten Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association. DIA provides the resources for over 500 student-athletes to participate at the highest levels of their respective sports. This extensive support ecosystem includes over 35 departments employing over 300 dedicated staff members including 80 plus varsity coaches working collaboratively to provide individualized championship-caliber opportunities to our student-athletes, in the classroom, in the competitive arena, and in personal and professional development, to enhance their growth and life preparation. Requirements

  • Master's degree in Athletic Training or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer, with experience in a collegiate or professional athletics setting.
  • Certification by the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Certification.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Licensed Athletic Trainer by the State of Illinois.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Advanced practice training, certifications or skills such as manual therapy techniques, dry needling, etc.
  • Five to 7 years of certified athletic training experience in a college or professional athletic setting, with basketball experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Sports Medicine as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Men's Basketball Program.
  • Support health care team, including team physicians in providing medical coverage and support for the delivery of an integrated health care system to student athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics sport programs.
  • Become familiar with the strategic vision and priorities of DIA and Fighting Illini sport programs.
  • Become familiar with respective EMRs, and health care systems to optimally document health care and communicate collaboratively.
  • Meet with Director of Sports Medicine Staff and staff mentor on regular basis to assist with transition to health care team.
  • Build a network of colleagues across fellow student support areas to grow professionally and better support student-athletes.
  • Cultivate relationships and trust with team physicians, sports medicine staff as well as student-athletes and coaches.
  • Cooperatively set annual growth plan for professional development.
  • Reflect back on challenges presented in first year and help to review all areas of improvement needed personally and professionally.
  • Assist in review of current policies and procedures or standard operating procedures for departmental improvement.
  • Seek out and provide mentorship for fellow staff members.
  • Participate in professional development to further clinical skills and professional impact.
